Queer Magic

A styled shoot celebrating queer joy with LGBTQ suppliers

What happens when a bunch of gays (and a few fierce allies) create a styled shoot?

Queer Magic

On the outskirts of Bristol and Bath next to a little town called Temple Cloud sits a fantasy playground known as Rockaway Park and amongst the steel structures you’ll find The Chapel Of Unrest. Built with a powerful purpose and as a protest to The Man, The Chapel Of Unrest is home to a movement. If you’re looking for a wedding venue that defies the norm, this place is perfectly weird.

The brief was colourful, florals, vibrancy, and above all, queer joy.

The models, Ruby and Money, are a real couple from Bristol who radiate queer joy. For Ruby’s outfit I didn’t have to look any further for inspiration than the model herself. Unapologetic and bright. I wanted to create something less ‘Bridal’ and more haute couture. A statement piece that matched the energy of the wearer. Using an ex-sample piece as a base that I dyed bright pink and removed the sleeves from, I started creating shapes with a selection of incredible pleated organza in pinks and oranges to mimic flowers, adding touches of soft floating pieces of pale green chiffon to resemble leaves. Styled on the day with my signature stacking of veils (because why choose one?) and a gorgeous gem coated headband by The Lucky Sixpence.

The cake maker, Claire, created her outstanding cake inspired by the dress which looks more like art than a delicacy.

Sat upon a stunning cabinet by Lucy Turner Modern Marquetry with a flourish of florals and colourful candles.

The florals were soft purples and peaches with vivid orange pops and the stationary matched perfectly.
And the gorgeous celebrant Eleanor wore her brightest skirt to match.
This shoot is the perfect example of when wedding suppliers collaborate well together and how your wedding can be absolutely anything you want it to be.
